At
least two adult Child Care Providers will be present at each time that the
nursery is open for children.
There
will be exceptions to the above rule in the situation of:
One
Child Care Provider remains while the other Child Care Provider
temporarily leaves the area or room for some medical, family, or other
reasonable necessity involving one of the children being cared for.
One
Child Care Provider is taking a child to or from a church-related function,
activity, event, or program.
A
Child Care Provider temporarily remains with a child while waiting for
others to arrive at, or while a child is briefly waiting to leave a
church-related function, activity, event or program.
Nursery Rules and Procedures:
The
split door between the two nurseries is to remain open at all times and,
therefore, be treated as one entity.
No one other than the children in the
nursery and approved Child Care Providers are to remain in the nursery.(Exceptions would be children of a Child
Care Provider.)
At
least two Child Care Providers must be present when anyone is changing a
child's diaper. The father of a child may change his own child's diaper;
otherwise, only women may change diapers.
Children
should be released only to the person(s) indicated on the sign-in sheet.
Arrival:
Always
have parents sign in their child. Ask if there are any special
instructions, medical or behavioral information, etc.
Make
sure any visitor's diaper bags are marked; labels are in the chest of
drawers if needed. Also label sippy-cups with tape.
Hang
diaper bag by nametag peg.
Ask
parents if a child is potty training. If so have the parents bring child
to use the bathroom before leaving.
Always
comfort the children if upset by parents leaving. Introduce toys and
reassure that their parent/guardian will come back soon.
Infants and Toys:
Keep
an eye on the younger babies: either hold them or place them on a blanket.
Give
only age appropriate toys.
If
toys are put into a child's mouth, put them by the sink to be washed and
sanitized later.
Discipline:
Time
outs should be used at the Child Care Provider's discretion.
If the
child is being destructive or will not stop a behavior that is hurting
another child, a child care provider should get the parent for assistance.
You
should also get the parents out of a service or class if:
Their
child becomes ill
Soils
his/hers clothing and there are no other clothes available.
A
child cries inconsolably for more than 15 minutes.
A
child has been injured.
Snack:
At 9:45
- 10:00am (during the morning service) or at 11:15-11:30am (during Sunday
School classes) offer a snack (animal crackers or goldfish are found by
the sink in the bathroom).
Children
should be instructed to eat at the table with their snack on a napkin and
a small cup of water (or the child's personal sippy-cup).
Children
should not walk around the room with food or play while snacking to
prevent the possibility of choking or of making more of a mess.
Children
can have their sippy-cup while playing but be on guard for sharing of
drinks. (Sharing germs-yuk!)
Diaper Changes
Use a
new pad for every diaper change and sanitize the area after changing.
Consider
using rubber gloves for changing messy diapers.
Soiled
diapers are to be put in a tied off bag and put into the diaper pail.
Empty
the diaper pail into outside trash after 12:00pm.
Extra
diapers are available in a drawer of changing table
"Potty Times"
If
child is potty-training, try to make the child use the restroom every 30
minutes or as child shows need.
If an
accident happens check the child's diaper bag for pull-ups or extra
clothes.
Extra
pull-ups are available in a drawer of the changing table.
Pick-up Time:
Children
may be picked up by designated person(s) only (as shown on the sign-in
sheet).
Siblings
can not pick up children from the nursery unless specifically approved by
their parents.
